Privacy Policy

The short version
Arclyne is built on a simple principle: your research stays on your machine. We designed the app so that your documents, notes, and AI-generated summaries never leave your device. We do not have servers that store your research. We cannot read your files. We do not sell your data.

01Who we are

Arclyne is developed and operated by the Arclyne team, based in India. You can contact us at support@arclyne.com for any privacy-related questions.

02What Arclyne processes and where

Research content — processed entirely on your device

When you add a PDF, YouTube video, arXiv paper, web page, or Zotero library to Arclyne, all processing happens locally on your machine:

  • Document text is extracted by your device and stored in a local SQLite database in your application data folder.
  • AI summaries are generated by a local AI model running on your machine via the bundled llama-server — no text is sent to any external server.
  • Search embeddings (the mathematical representations used for library search and chat) are computed locally and stored in a local LanceDB database on your device.
  • Chat messages between you and your local AI are stored only on your device.
We have no access to any of this content. It does not pass through our servers.

03What we do collect

We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the service.

Licence and payment information

When you purchase Arclyne through our payment processor (Dodo Payments):

  • Your email address and payment details are processed by Dodo Payments. We receive your email address and a licence key identifier. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.
  • A machine fingerprint (a hash of your device's hostname, username, and OS information) is stored locally on your device and sent to Dodo Payments' licence API solely to manage your activation count. This fingerprint cannot identify you personally and is not linked to your research content.
  • Dodo Payments' privacy policy applies to payment processing: dodopayments.com/privacy.

Crash reports and usage analytics

We do not collect crash reports or usage analytics from the Arclyne desktop application. We do not use tracking pixels, session recording, or third-party analytics services inside the app.

Our landing page (arclyne.com) uses standard web server logs (IP addresses, referrer URLs, page views) which are retained for 30 days for security and performance monitoring. We do not use advertising trackers or cross-site tracking on our website.

04AI model downloads

When you download an AI model through Arclyne (e.g. Llama 3.2, Gemma 4), the download is made directly from Hugging Face's servers (huggingface.co). Standard connection data (your IP address) is visible to Hugging Face during this download. Hugging Face's privacy policy applies: huggingface.co/privacy.

We do not receive data about your model downloads.

05Data retention and deletion

Because your research data is stored locally on your device, you control its retention entirely:

  • Deleting Arclyne: uninstalling the application removes the application itself. Your data folder (in your operating system's application data directory) may remain and should be deleted manually if you wish to remove all data.
  • Clearing your library: Settings → Clear entire library permanently deletes all library items, summaries, and chat history from your device.
  • Deactivating your licence: you can deactivate your licence in Settings to free an activation slot. Your licence record with Dodo Payments is retained per their policy.

Your local data folder is %APPDATA%\Arclyne on Windows. To request deletion of any data we hold about you (email address, licence record): email support@arclyne.com and we will process your request within 30 days.

06Children's privacy

Arclyne is not directed at children under 16 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16.

07International users and GDPR

We serve users globally, including within the European Economic Area (EEA). For EEA users:

  • The legal basis for processing your email address and licence information is contract performance (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR) — we need this to deliver the software you purchased.
  • You have the right to access, correct, and delete personal data we hold about you.
  • You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Because Arclyne processes your research content locally on your device (not on our servers), GDPR obligations regarding research content rest with you as the data controller for your own device.

08Security

We take reasonable technical precautions for the data we do hold (licence records, email addresses). Your local research data is protected by your operating system's file system permissions — no other application or user on your machine can access it without your credentials.

We recommend standard device security practices: keeping your operating system updated, using a device password, and encrypting your hard drive.

09Changes to this policy

We will notify users of material changes to this privacy policy by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, displaying a notice in the application. Continued use of Arclyne after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
